Has anyone had a Volvo 380 engine issue? The engine in my 2020 brand new R-5, less than 9 hours time, suddenly stopped. The mechanic is unable to turn the crankshaft and all the electronics went out. Just wondering as it seems highly irregular. The boat is on its way back to the dealer and I am just wondering if my expectations are close.
I have mer heard of both happening at the same time. Can’t turn the crank (hydrolock) or electronics go out, but never at the same time.
I cannot imagine it was hydrolock. We were turning about 3000RPM when there was a loud noise, somewhat similar to a backfire, and the engine abruptly stopped.
Yesterday dealer said there was an above average amount of metal shavings in the oil filter. Volvo asked them to return engine intact and has shipped anew one. Hope nothing in the out drive was damaged by the sudden engine seizure.
Glad they are replacing the motor. I would think that the drive would be ok. Let us know how it goes.
Unfortunately I have herd of a similar issue. My dealer was prepping a new R7 with a 380 and on a sea trial the motor let go. This was not my boat. My dealer support is excellent in order to deliver the boat as promised to the customer he pulled another 380 out of another R7 and delivered it on time.
That is great service! Unfortunately I took delivery early April and because of weather had not gotten through the break in period, only 8.5 hours when this happened. The electronics went out at the same time so don't know how that all works out. Hoping to have a boat this summer!
