Is there anything special about the location Cobalt picked for the factory installed water temp probe? The immediate 90 degree bend of the wire seems like it's just asking for problems, and in my case the wire broke off the probe at this corner. I ordered a new Lowrance gauge and temp probe, trying to decide the best location for it. Maybe right around the corner from this location, in a spot where the wire does not have to bend? Thoughts?
I'm not sure of the rationale in the way they positioned the sensor. Here's a pic of mine (don't judge the exhaust stains at the waterline )
Thanks for your reply. I took the day off Tuesday and worked on the boat some, got the depth finder/temp sender replaced. The new temp probe mounts with a single screw at the end rather than two on the side like my old one. I didn't want to drill new holes so I ended up leaving the old probe in place and mounting the new one using an existing screw hole on the inside of the transom area. Will try to grab a picture this weekend, but if you look at your pic it's about where the lowest cable clamp is screwed in before the cable goes around the corner. Hopefully that will work ok.
Here's how it turned out. Works fine when floating, doesn't stay in the water when planing though. Does your temp work when cruising?
