My old steering wheel was looking tired and worn so I've been looking for a replacement for quite awhile. I was on eBay last week and, as luck would have it, I found great looking Gussi steering wheel for only $36. The color is close to my interior color so I thought I'd give it a try and for that price I couldn't lose. Add shipping and the gear puller that I purchased and I'm all in for $61. Here's a link to the steering wheel for anyone who's interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/232218406579 And here it is installed followed by the steps I took to install it. Total install time was 10 minutes (it took longer to gather my tools). Here's the original steering wheel prior to replacing: Upon removing the wheel I found this enormous hub attached to the shaft. It was immovable with bare hands and I didn't want to risk any damage by prying it or hammering it: I purchased a $10 gear puller from NAPA and sprayed the hub with JB Weld lubricant: Three cranks on the gear puller and it popped off with ease:
Rob, just wanted to let you know you inspired me to do the exact same thing you did Don't mind the mismatched dash panels, I'm in the process of vinyl wrapping them.
Alright.... Now you guys have me thinking. I was going to stay with my original stainless wheel to stay true to the vintage but it does get very cold and sometimes....too hot to touch. Back to eBay.... Shawn
Love the steering wheel! Just wondering if it would fit a 2000 Cobalt!i didn’t see any specs! I know it a universal wheel but would just like to make sure before I buy it! Any ideas gentlemen? Thanks
I don't see why it wouldn't, I think the steering g columns are pretty universal. You can take your existing wheel off easily, just pop off the center panel and remove the nut, then check and see if it looks the same as the photos Rob posted above.
